“Perhaps the greatest short-term threat to world peace is the possibility that Israel would bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities.” - John Edwards
In an article I read recently in variety, John Edwards at a campaign fundraiser at the chic talent agency Endeavour dropped the “I” bomb and made possibly the most ridiculous statement he could have ever made, besides the “two americas” shtick, in possibly the worst place to make it.
There is a growing trend in the Democratic Party to be unable to identify real evil. As an Israel supporter, and an Israeli citizen, I am deeply concerned at the future of America’s relationship with Israel. Did John Edwards miss the part about Iran building Nuclear facilities and swearing to wipe Israel off the map? Or does he really believe Israel is the biggest threat to world peace.
That is the typical language I would expect from a UN resolution, not a US Presidential candidate, except if your name is Dennis Kucinich or David Duke. Personally I am a Giuliani supporter and believe he has proved through action, not rhetoric that he can deal with the radical Islamists and their jihad nonsense. When you throw Arafat out of a NYC event and return a $10 million check from a Saudi prince after learning about his comments on Israel and his opinion on America’s Middle East policy, that shows, in my opinion, the strength needed in a leader to face up to the harsh realities Israel has been facing since before 1948.

you are both a fool and and idiot. a fool because you actually think giuliani’s showmanship, as opposed to actually policy making matters. And an idiot because you mistake “the left” with the Democratic party….and a small subsection of the left at that…
Geez, would it be too much to ask for someone who publishes on this blog to actually understand something about American politics and the candidates running for President. Or is it ok to just rely on incoherent ramblings from the New York Post and the Jewish Press?

whoa, looks like the zionsts got an argument: http://www.blogsofzion.com/blog/?p=1235
but should the zionists even care who wins the us election?

Liberals have a funny way of debating. They just call you stupid. If returning a $10 million check intended for 9/11 relief because you have “morals” (what a shock) should not be a deciding factor, than maybe I’m missing something.
As for policy making matters, as far as Israel goes (this is a zionist blog still?) I don’t know that a mayor of New York would bump into many policy making situations regarding our little State in the middle east.
And when you say mistake “the left” with the Democratic Party, are you referring to the Howard Dean Left (the Chairman of the DNC) or the more centrist Democratic Party like Joseph Lieberman (wait, he’s not even a Democrat anymore).

Good lord. Seriously, if you don’t understand that both of those things you credit to giuiani were publicity stunts that had no effect on anything actually happening
So quick quiz. First President of the United States to declare it US policy to create a Palestinian state? Or refer to an occupation? Yes, your hero George W Bush.
but since you know so little about actual American politics- let me educate you a little. The fundamental difference between the candidates on all sides on Israel is almost nil, except for the continued opposition by some right wingers to any compromise that might lead to peace. But see what you will
I don’t much care, cause your guy has two weeks left in his campaign. He scrapes by in FL and get blown on on Feb 5 and he’s done.
Oh, quick question. How many Jewish members of congress are there? Ok, now how many of them are Republicans….
Still a fool and an idiot

[…] Most of my conversations about the presidential primaries have been about the Democratic field. But Tom over at Blogs of Zion has reminded me that we’re not all Democrats. […]

What’s your point about Jews in Congress? The White House will be the one making any real significant changes, not Congress. Tom DeLay was very pro-Israel yet when it came to Oslo, did nothing to stop Clinton.
However, there are many Jews involved in Government, currently, that are conservatives. Just as many as Jewish members of Congress actually. Would you like me to name them for you?
And just to make sure you’re aware, Israel has occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip (until 2006) since the Six-Day War. They never annexed those areas, so it is an Occupation, we certainly did not need George Bush to figure that one out.

Traditionally Democrats have been far better than Republicans for Israel, the sole exception in my lifetime being Jimmy Carter. The only Republican President who was a true friend of Israel was Richard Nixon. Dwight Eisenhower forced the return of Gaza in ‘56 which directly led to another war. George H.W. Bush is the only President that actually froze loan guarantees to Israel. The current President, well… I could write a whole book on how he has pushed Israel into actions contrary to the Israeli national interest. The latest NIE report is an example of the James Baker school of foreign policy. Who can forget Mr, Baker’s comments in Florida after the 2000 election: “F-ck the Jews, they didn’t vote for you anyway.” Both Secretary of State Rice and Secretary of Defense Gates are Baker proteges. At least Prime Minister Sharon had the backbone to remind this President that Israel cannot be treated the way Czechoslovakia was in 1938. Prime Minister Olmert lacks the backbone to do even that.
The only Republican still in the race who is a true friend of Israel is John McCain and I can’t vote for him for a whole slew of other issues. I’m supporting Senator Clinton and my post as to why will appear shortly.
The anti-Israel view you describe as belonging to “the left” only belongs to the far left. Most Democratic leaders strongly support Israel. Since neither Dennis Kucinich nor Mike Gravel will win the nomination you probably have nothing to fear from a Democrat. That’s more than I can say for a fundamentalist Christian theocrat like Mike Huckabee or a Libertarian with neo-Confederate ties who always votes against Israel like Ron Paul. Willard Milton Romney has no record vis a vis Israel whatsoever so I don’t know what to think.
